Current Whereabouts
Dave defended his thesis in 2007 and is working at Providence College in Rhode Island
Research
Gadolinium (Gd) is a ferromagnet
with a Curie temperature of 293 K. When Gd is made such that the
grains become small, the magnetic properties change and a glassy
magnetic behavior is observed. I use cluster deposition to make
monodisperse
Gd clusters, then either measure the resulting samples,
or compact them under high pressure to increase intergrain interaction.
Biography
Dave grew up in Hyde Park, N.Y., home of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. After graduating from Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School, Dave went on to school at the University of Rochester. At UR Dave majored in Physics and whiled away his free time perfecting and performing his juggling act. (Dave is a real clown) Dave graduated from UR in 1999 with a BA in Physics. After some well deserved time off Dave moved to Lincoln and started graduate school at UNL in the Fall of 2000. He began working for Dr. Leslie-Pelecky during the summer of 2001. He still tries to find time to juggle whenever he can.
